About our Small Ribbon and Leaf Plaster Ceiling Rose
Design & Detailing
The Georgian Plain plaster ceiling rose 395mm is a small decorative ceiling feature defined by a sculpted acanthus centre framed by a distinctive ribbon perimeter band. The leafy central motif forms a compact focal point within the circular composition, while the surrounding ribbon detailing introduces a repeating architectural border that frames the design. As a small ceiling rose, the arrangement balances botanical ornament with structured classical detailing to produce a clear architectural centrepiece.
The decorative elements are carefully contained within the circular form of the rose, allowing the foliage to introduce visual texture without overwhelming the surrounding ceiling space. This balance between ornament and structure helps maintain the refined decorative character associated with Georgian plasterwork.
Georgian Influence
This traditional ceiling rose reflects decorative themes widely associated with Georgian interior plasterwork. Classical motifs such as acanthus leaves and ribbon bands were commonly incorporated into architectural mouldings during the eighteenth century, where proportion and symmetry played a central role in interior design.
The combination of botanical centre detail and structured perimeter ornament aligns closely with many Georgian ceiling roses installed within traditional period interiors. These decorative elements introduce subtle enrichment while maintaining the architectural balance that characterises Georgian plaster decoration.
Size & Ceiling Proportion
The Georgian Plain plaster ceiling rose 395mm in diameter (approximately 15.5 inches) has a maximum thickness of 25mm. This compact scale makes the rose particularly suitable for smaller rooms where modest ceiling heights benefit from decorative plasterwork that remains visually balanced.
The centre opening accommodates a light fitting up to 60mm in diameter, allowing pendant fittings to pass neatly through the centre while the surrounding ornament frames the lighting point. Its scale works well within interiors incorporating new or existing heritage plaster mouldings.
Craftsmanship & Material
Each Georgian Plain plaster ceiling rose 395mm is produced in fibrous plaster at our workshop in Norfolk using traditional casting techniques followed by careful hand finishing. This process ensures the acanthus centre and ribbon perimeter remain crisp and clearly defined across the moulding.
Fibrous plaster allows the delicate botanical and ribbon detailing to retain its clarity once installed and decorated while providing durability suited to architectural plasterwork. The result is a refined decorative feature that introduces subtle Georgian character to the centre of the ceiling.
