Frequently Asked Questions
About Our Products
Q. What are your products made from?
All of our products are made from traditional fibrous plaster. This includes high-quality gypsum plaster, timber laths, and hessian scrim (canvas). Each item is handmade using traditional methods at our workshop in Norfolk.
Q. Can you match my existing cornice?
Yes. We are able to create new tooling to replicate original mouldings. To obtain a price, please send us a photograph of the moulding, the quantity needed, your location, and accurate profile measurements—we’d be happy to assist.
Q. I have a curved wall. Do you supply flexible cornice for this?
No. All of our plaster mouldings are rigid. However, we can create a bespoke curved section to suit your wall if required. There is a set-up charge for this. Please get in touch with a photo and profile details so we can advise.
Ordering and Returns
Q. Can I return items?
As most of our items are made to order, we generally do not accept returns. It’s important to ensure your selection is correct before placing an order.
If you have any questions, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help.
Q. Do you offer trade or bulk discounts?
Yes, larger orders may be eligible for a discount. Please contact us with your quantities and product codes for a dedicated quote.
Delivery and Packaging
Q. How long does it take to receive my order?
Larger items such as cornice are typically delivered within 12 to 17 working days. Smaller items like ceiling roses are usually delivered within 5 to 10 working days.
If you’re working to a tight schedule, it’s worth getting in touch—we can often reshuffle production to dispatch your order sooner. If we’re able to improve on the quoted delivery time at checkout, we’ll contact you directly.
Q. How are your products delivered safely?
Larger or more delicate items are delivered using our own in-house delivery service by drivers trained in handling fibrous plaster. This ensures safe transport and reduces the risk of damage. Smaller items like ceiling roses and corbels are securely packaged and shipped via standard couriers.
Q. What if my item arrives damaged?
On the rare occasion an item arrives damaged, please email clear photos to info@britishmouldings.co.uk and we will arrange a replacement promptly.
Q. Do you deliver to London or other specific areas?
Yes, we deliver across the UK, including London. Delivery costs are calculated automatically at checkout based on the items in your basket.
Installation and Finishing
Q. Can I install these items myself?
Yes, many of our customers install these items themselves. It can be tricky at first, but if you’re handy—or have someone helping who is—it’s entirely possible.
That said, we always recommend using an experienced installer for the best results.
Q. Do you offer installation services?
We don’t install directly, but we can arrange installation through our sister company. Please get in touch and we’ll coordinate this on your behalf.
Q. Are they easy to finish or paint?
We suggest contacting an experienced decorator for best results. Typically, applying a mist coat or an alkaline-based sealer primer before painting produces the best outcome.
Q. Can I paint the items before fitting them?
It’s not recommended. All items are cut to size on site and installation is often messy—so any paintwork done beforehand is likely to be ruined.
Q. Will my ceiling be strong enough to hold a ceiling rose?
Ceiling roses are suitable for most standard ceilings that have joists. They are not recommended for suspended or false ceilings. For ceiling roses over 900mm, additional support may be required. If in doubt, check with your installer.
Q. How do I work out how much coving or cornice I need?
Measure the perimeter of the room, excluding doors and windows. We advise adding a minimum of 10% for waste and cuts. This may increase depending on the shape of the room and whether the cornice has a pattern. We recommend confirming quantities with your installer before placing an order to avoid unnecessary additional deliveries.
